Papaya Playa

Papaya Playa, a Design Hotels project is popping up in Tulum, Mexico. Eighty-five cabanas have been refurbished by the Design Hotels(tm) creative team on a 900 meter stretch of virgin beach facing the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Design Hotels(tm) and a group of like-minded partners have created a communal playground, offering a raw, white canvas for a community seeking reconnection with nature and within themselves. KaterHolzig, the most recent offspring of Berlin's legendary Bar 25, will serve up seasonal local food from the grill or out of the clay oven. Their beach bar and the Papaya recording studio will be the epicenter for DJs and performing artists. They will also curate an event series around Mayan full moon rituals.

Berlin-based creative agency, mamapapacola—who are known for their offbeat ideas in advertising, design, and events—has been tasked with filling the five-month pop-up project with memorable stories. Their work started with an ideation session in Tulum many months ago, extended to connecting Design Hotels with restaurants and clubs like Kater Holzig and Club der Visionaere, and has also included designing The Papaya Playa Project website.

42°RAW, already making waves in organic gastronomy, will provide plant-based food-on-the-go. To complete the holistic circle, So Happy Neo Spa will use Mayan shaman secrets to pamper body, mind and soul.

With 'community' at the core of the physical and experiential concept the "Papaya Playa Project" sets the stage for a spiritual and adventurous journey worth sharing.

 

Cabañas & Villas Hotel Papaya Playa

CASITA.
Papaya Playa's premier accommodation offering. Casitas are located just meters from the oceanfront. They offer very spacious living with high ceilings and plenty of natural light. Bedding is 1 King + 1 Double; each with 300-thread count linens. All have stunning views of the ocean. Each have their own spacious private bathroom.

OCEAN FRONT CABANA – PRIVATE BATHROOM.
All of these solid structure cabanas are perched atop the properties natural rocky ledge with stunning ocean views. All have immediate access to the beach via natural rocky steps. Bedding is 1 Double; each with 300-thread count linens. All are equipped with a private bathroom.

OCEAN FRONT CABANA – SHARED BATHROOM.
These mostly wooden cabanas encompass the true beauty of Tulum. All are perched on the properties rocky ledge affording them stunning and intimate ocean views. Most have terraces which push the living space even closer to the turquoise Caribbean waters. Flooring is either concrete, sand or hard wood. Bedding is 1 Double bed; each with 300-thread count linens. These cabanas use the properties recently remodeled shared bathrooms.

GARDEN CABANA – PRIVATE BATHROOM.
These solid structure cabanas are located slightly back from the beachfront, therefore offer garden or partial ocean views. They have concrete flooring. Bedding is 1 Double bed; each with 300-thread count linens. All of these cabanas have a private bathroom.

JUNGLE CABANA – PRIVATE BATHROOM.
These modest solid or wooden cabanas are set back approximately thirty meters from the beach amidst the flora and fauna of the jungle. They have concrete flooring. Bedding is 1 Double bed; each with 300-thread count linens. All of these cabanas have a private bathroom.

JUNGLE CABANA – SHARED BATHROOM.
The resorts most economical choice, each are equipped with 1 bunk bed, allowing a maximum of two (2) persons per room. These modest solid or wooden cabanas are set back approximately thirty meters from the beach amidst the flora and fauna of the jungle. Flooring is either concrete, hard wood or sand. These cabanas use the properties recently remodeled shared bathrooms.
