The name of the municipality, Telchac, in Mayan language means "Rain necessary". .This port is located 30 minutes from Progreso and 20 minutes from Uaymitún and the most populated areas of Chicxulub and tropical Riviera. Telchac is a small corner that is located on the coast of Yucatan, has very calm and transparent waters, ideal pretext for various water sports or simply enjoy a relaxing break.
It is a very nice and is home to variety of animals and birds, especially traditional pink flamingos. On the foundation of Telchac port, it is estimated that arises from the conquest, evolution begins in 1821, when Yucatan declares independence from the Spanish Crown. There are lots classified as tropical dry forest, tree species which can reach 15 feet or more.
Regarding the fauna, on the coast there is a variety of fish, mollusks: octopus, snail, squid, and crustaceans, lobster and crab. There are also different kinds of reptiles and birds, the latter can be classified between marine and terrestrial. The place is very nice with lush trees, paths and children's play area. Little jetty and lighthouse give a flavor of the port. A 6 kilometers inland are the Mayan pyramids of X-Cambo. During July and August in the port activity is high. The fair in the square with food stalls and rides are always very popular among youth and families.
